When To Buy A New Computer?

Many of us want the latest and greatest when we purchase new items, whether it is new vehicle, TV, or cell phone. We want the same in our computers system, but when do we need to give in and buy that new PC or Laptop. Let us answer this question by asking 3 simple questions.

First, How old is your current computer system? Yes, it seems that PCs or Laptops are outdated as soon as the box is open. In some cases, this is true when it comes to the technology in the computer system; but it is not true to the usefulness of the system to your needs. Your PC or Laptop should meet your needs for 3+ years. If your PC is older than 4 years, you should start thinking of replacing your system.

Second, What is the cost of a new computer system vs. upgrading the parts on your current system? Technology changes rapidly throughout the year, but after 4 years technology makes such a drastic move that it is time to consider making a change. Evaluate upgrading your current system and compare the cost to a new system. Adding a new hard drive and a new memory stick maybe all that is required to have your system ready for another year or two. Sometimes, a new system will be more cost effective to meet your needs. Do the homework, and decide which will fit for you.

Third, Can you afford a new computer system? Don't get caught in the 2 biggest traps of the day. The 1st trap is taking out high interest credit for a low monthly payment. The 2nd trap is renting from a store. In both of these traps, you will pay more than the system is currently worth and will be worth in the future. Remember computer systems devalue over time. The best option is to pay by cash at the time of purchase. If you cannot do this and you need credit, make sure you have the means to pay off the credit within 6 months of the purchase date.

In conclusion, an Up-To-Date computer system is a nice thing to own, but it is not always a necessity. Remember don't over evaluate your needs, don't over spend, and don't get into debt.
