Maximize Your Zune Battery Life

Maximize Your Zune Battery Life
By Mitch Bartlett

Whenever I go on a trip, I don't bother to take any of the cables that allow me to charge my Zune. I like to be sure that the battery will last a long time on one charge. So before I trip I like to make some changes to my settings that conserves battery power. Here they are:

Turn off wireless: Select Settings > wireless, and select wireless:off.

Lower the backlight time: Select Settings > display, and select backlight:1 or 5 seconds.

Lower the backlight brightness: Select Settings > display, and select brightness: low

Use the Hold setting: Set it to Locked when you are not using the device. This will prevent the device from playing accidentally while bouncing around your bag or pocket.

Keep the device in a cool environment: Lithium-ion batteries like the one in most of todays devices like to exist in cooler environments. Keeping the device in a cooler environment will make the battery last a bit longer over time.

Try not to use the buttons too much: Anything where you use the buttons can consume battery power. Set yourself up with a playlist you will be in the mood to listen to so you don't have to constantly keep skipping songs to find the right one.

Use these tips and keep your Zune providing you with hours and hours of play time on one battery charge. For your convenience, here is a list of the average times a Zune device lasts per full battery charge.

4GB: 24 hours
8GB: 24 hours

30GB: 14 hours
80GB: 30 hours
